Getting Into The Community
Why is it that when you see things like the L.A. Marathon and the AIDS Walk in LA ... or hell for that matter in any big city, why isn't radio involved?
Just blows my mind that these huge events aren't as important as the next Jingle Ball Concert for stations.
Wake up!!!!

Agreed! The reasoning for this would be that stations would rather have their name marked on the front of something than be in the shadows. That's why, there are a lot of Toys for Tots benefits at a lot of stations. If you look at most station sites you can see that they are each trying to make their own mark on the community.

LA Marathon was covered live on TV and used to have radio coverage, too. It could be two reasons. The new owner of the event wanted more money to be the exclusive radio media or that stations don't have staff to devote to an all day event anymore. And one more thing, play by pay on a marathon is like doing color while watching paint dry. There is not a whole lot of drama until the end.
